Navajo Nation Rug UAT

This handwoven Navajo rug m a bold and highly structured geometric composition centered around a vertical chain of stepped diamond medallions. The design is arranged symmetrically along the longitudinal axis and is framed by a wide contrasting border system. The central field is woven in a deep charcoal to black ground, providing strong contrast for the vivid geometric patterning. Running through the center is a vertical sequence of large serrated diamonds rendered in layered colors of burgundy, muted rose, golden tan, ivory, and rust red. Each diamond is outlined with stepped zig-zag forms that create a dramatic lightning-like visual movement across the surface of the rug. The diamonds are connected by narrow burgundy hourglass connectors that reinforce the central axis of the design. Surrounding the medallions are repeating triangular serrations in tan, ivory, and rust, producing a rhythmic saw-tooth effect that gives the rug strong directional energy. The border structure is particularly distinctive. A wide tan border surrounds the central field and is enclosed by a dark outer frame. Along both sides of the rug, rows of large alternating triangular teeth in ivory and black project inward toward the field, creating a striking serrated border that emphasizes the rug’s vertical orientation.
